ALLIANCE.GLOBAL and UNAIDS: First Day of Social Cohesion and Communication Training for LGBTIQ+ IDPs
26.07.2024

The tranquil Viking Bay bustled with activity today as ALLIANCE.GLOBAL, supported by UNAIDS, kicked off a two-day training on social cohesion and communication for LGBTIQ+ IDPs.
The first day unfolded as a kaleidoscope of emotions, discoveries, and new connections.
The morning introductions seamlessly flowed into a lively discussion about human rights and their link to social cohesion. Participants delved into exploring their own biases and stereotypes, uncovering new facets of understanding themselves and others.
“I’ve never realised how deeply ingrained some of my beliefs are,” one participant shared.
The “Take a Step Forward” exercise proved particularly eye-opening. It vividly demonstrated the inequality of opportunities in society, prompting many to reflect on the privileges and limitations faced by different groups.
“It was like a bolt from the blue – I suddenly realised how many obstacles some people overcome daily,” another participant confessed.
After lunch, attendees immersed themselves in effective communication, exploring various strategies for handling conflict situations. Practical exercises helped hone active listening skills and “I-statements”.
“These techniques are a real find for me. I now better understand how to communicate with my family, who don’t accept me at all,” a young gay man from a small town shared his impressions.
The final session on Graves’ spiral dynamics served as a bridge between personal development and societal change, inspiring participants to further work on themselves and their environment.
The day flew by in a heartbeat, leaving participants with a deep sense of gratitude towards the organisers and anticipation for new discoveries tomorrow.
“ALLIANCE.GLOBAL and UNAIDS have created a space for growth, understanding, and unity,” the project’s communications officer shares.
Another day lies ahead, and we eagerly await new knowledge, insights, and opportunities for growth.
