Olya Polyakova discusses whether she would support her own children being part of the LGBT community

Singer Olya Polyakova recently made a post on social media in support of the Equality March and the LGBT community. The publication sparked a heated reaction among internet users, so the artist decided to respond to some of her followers’ most provocative comments during a live broadcast.

The singer ironically titled her broadcast “Sodom and Gomorrah”, as this was the comment most frequently left under her social media post. Therefore, Polyakova immediately clarified her position regarding the LGBT community.

“I genuinely support such things from the bottom of my heart. I believe that people should have the freedom to make their own choices. Adults must decide what religion to have, which party to vote for, who to live with, and what to do,” Polyakova comments.

In response to subscribers’ comments that it is inappropriate to hold Equality Marches during wartime, the artist noted that it was not a parade but a peaceful action in support of necessary laws on civil partnership, as well as the issue of bullying and discrimination.

Polyakova also addressed a follower’s comment about how she would react if her children decided to enter into same-sex relationships.

“I would say, ‘Darling, be happy with whomever you choose, because I cannot tell you who to live with if you fancy women.’ How could I reject my own child? My children will make their choice, and I will accept it because I respect every person’s choice,” the artist says.

The singer recalled a story when her younger daughter temporarily imagined herself as a boy. At that time, the artist also reacted with understanding.

“When my Alisa was 9, she declared that she was a boy and her name was Valera. Did I take the child to a psychiatric hospital? No! I said, ‘Alright, if you want to be a boy, what do you need for that?’ She said to buy her men’s swimming trunks, so her dad bought them. The child swam in them for two years, then started wearing dresses again. Why did she do that? Because no one frightened her. Valera disappeared somewhere because mum accepted it normally. A child at that age begins to realise who they are; when this process passes, they figure it out. The main thing is not to bother them,” the star says.

According to Polyakova, members of the LGBT community have existed throughout all times. Moreover, many of them are at the front today defending Ukraine. The artist emphasised that equal rights for all people is a civilised choice for the country.

“Be tolerant and respect everyone’s choices. It’s not so scary to demonstrate your choice; what’s scary is when force is demonstrated that can take away, smash, and destroy. So people, love and respect each other. Partnership is about support, love, and respect,” the artist urged.
