In an era of rapid societal development, where questions of gender identity and sexual orientation are becoming increasingly relevant, Ukrainian writer Anastasiya Djaber bursts onto the literary scene with the novel "By the Will of Fate."

This work, filled with sincerity and emotion, immerses the reader into the world of female homosexuality, revealing the nuances and depth of relationships between women.

At 23, the author, combining a lawyer’s rationality with a writer’s sensitivity, shares with us the story of her creative journey, the motivation behind writing the novel, and her expectations for it.

“It all started with the quarantine of 2020,” Anastasiya recalls. “Isolation forced me to delve into the depths of my soul, where anxious thoughts turned into notes. Later, they evolved into poems and a novel.”

Inspired by the works of Sarah Waters, Anne Gardner, and other authors exploring the theme of female relationships, Anastasiya seeks to fill the gap in Ukrainian literature.

“I lacked queer-oriented novels that would visualize the experience of Ukrainian LGBT women,” she explains. “I decided to take the initiative into my own hands to give voice to this community.”

“By the Will of Fate” is not just a novel; it’s a call for self-acceptance and acceptance of one’s feelings. It’s a sincere story about the love between two girls that challenges social stereotypes and prejudices.

“My readers are people with free and romantic hearts,” Anastasiya shares. “People who seek to explore new facets of love.”

The novel “By the Will of Fate” has the potential to become a landmark phenomenon in Ukrainian queer literature. It can inspire a new generation of authors and contribute to greater tolerance and acceptance in society.

“Write what you feel deep in your soul; don’t restrain the flow of thoughts and emotions,” Anastasiya urges her readers. “Be brave and sincere in your creativity.”

The story of “By the Will of Fate” is just the beginning. Ahead of us lie new stories, new voices, and new facets of queer experience in Ukrainian literature.
