Singer TOM SODA has released a social track-manifesto titled 'Happy People' ('Щасливі люди') to commemorate Pride Month.

 

The song aims to remind us that we are all equal, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. #happypeople can be more than just another love song; it can become a statement for those who have the right to happiness regardless of gender, orientation, or age. And that’s about each of us. We are happy people because we have feelings in our hearts. If we feel, it means we’re alive,” TOM SODA emphasises.

 

The singer believes this song takes on new meaning for members of the LGBTQ+ community, who are forced to hide their love from prying eyes and have learned to be happy despite a lack of rights and societal pressure.

 

The track ‘Happy People’ is particularly intended to support the bill on civil partnerships.

 

“The bill on civil partnerships is an important step towards a civilised society. I’m surprised that the Constitution protects, for example, the rights of religious people, but completely ignores the rights of sexual minorities. These people also want and can create families, but for some reason don’t have legal permission to do so,” says TOM SODA.

 

The song ‘Happy People’ is dedicated to Kyiv Pride. According to the performer, it was an impulsive decision.

 

“Scrolling through my feed, I saw a post about the start of Pride Month. This post somewhat upset me because it was built on the concept that LGBTQ+ couples are supposedly only about aesthetics. Undoubtedly, aesthetics are important, but in my opinion, it’s primarily about real, ordinary people who can be anyone, look different, including not like they’re ‘from a glossy magazine’, and still be happy. And have the right to be accepted,” says TOM SODA.

 

A music video was released alongside the ‘Happy People’ single. The filming involved several Kyiv locations: the Ferris wheel on Kontraktova Square, the Pedestrian Bridge, and Trukhaniv Island.

 

“With this video, I want to support Ukrainians who find their happiness through the light and love in their hearts, even in dark times. Even despite societal pressure,” the artist adds.

 

As a reminder, in December, TOM SODA presented a video for the song ‘Special’ (‘Особлива’), in which a soldier made a real marriage proposal to his girlfriend. This was the singer’s way of supporting the 5th Separate Assault Kyiv Brigade. The video has garnered over 2,000,000 views on YouTube. Moreover, Ukrainians have already filmed more than 55,000 of their own videos on TikTok to the song ‘Special’.
