A Journey to a New Life: Mykyta’s Story
17.10.2024
"My name is Mykyta. I'm 21, and my story is a journey from despair to hope for a better future," begins the young man, whose eyes now radiate a calmness that wasn't there not long ago.
Mykyta’s childhood was filled with pain. “From a very young age, I faced abuse from those closest to me. My family was steeped in homophobia, and I became a target for bullying not only at home but also at school,” he recalls, his voice trembling ever so slightly.
Years passed, but the situation didn’t improve. “Even when I came of age, the toxic relationships with my loved ones didn’t stop. I felt trapped, unable to escape on my own,” Mykyta pauses for a moment, gathering his thoughts.
The constant pressure and feeling of hopelessness led to serious consequences. “Over time, I developed severe depression. There were days when I couldn’t even get out of bed or leave the house. Life lost its meaning, and I couldn’t see any light at the end of the tunnel,” he confesses.
But fate had an unexpected turn in store. “In my darkest hour, I learned about the NGO ‘ALLIANCE.GLOBAL’ in Dnipro. It became a turning point. Thanks to their support, my life was divided into ‘before’ and ‘after’,” Mykyta’s eyes begin to shine with warmth.
The organisation’s shelter became more than just a roof over Mykyta’s head. “When I first came there, I was completely exhausted – both physically and emotionally. But it was there that I could finally stop and take a deep breath,” he recalls gratefully.
“At the shelter, I received much more than just refuge. Moral, psychological, and material support restored my faith in the future. Thanks to psychological help, I began to regain my inner balance, and the support of those around me helped me believe in myself again,” Mykyta says this with sincere gratitude.
Today, Mykyta looks to the future with optimism.
“The shelter and NGO ‘ALLIANCE.GLOBAL’ helped me take the first steps towards a new, healthy life. This place became not just a refuge for me, but a real beginning of a better future,” he concludes, his smile full of hope.
